Oh, it is almost like asking me to 'eat' a juice with 'chopsticks' !
Even to eat rice is difficult , but with practice, one can do it... !
Scientific reasons are logic based..........
These festivals are emotions and sentiments based, which are the manifestations of intuitional aspect of mind, a show of gratitude, a reminder of accepted code of ethics etc ...
One may forcibly 'work out' a scientific reason, but it could not be the very purpose of it !

See in hinduism for every spiritual work there is a scientific reason behind it. Only thing is that they say that its for god in the sense the people will always go in the right path with devotion or else the crimes will increase & they wont have any discipline in their life. The reason for celebrating deepavali, holi is also the same. Its good over evil. In the sense that people should have some discipline in their life & always go in the right path what ever the circumstances may be.And also life will have no thrill if we are not happy. Hence festival means people enjoying & celebrating with happiness & spreading happiness & its an occasion to have a get to gether with all the family members. The main reason is staying happy which will lengthen our life span & by doing more good we will feel happy & satisfied for all family members. If all the family is happy the community will be happy. And the family tree goes on & on to the whole nation enjoying & merry making.
