If you want to be legal about it, search for "free underground music" or something like that. http://www.hypnotika.org/ has free music, but probably not anything you've heard of (it's mostly underground techno, or at least that's what I went there for). If you install iTunes, you can download music podcasts in mp3 format. I think there are also various free Internet radio stations too, so you can try those.

If you want to break the law, you can try one of the russian download sites. You pay a ridiculously trivial amount for popular music, but it's very shady and you could get screwed on your credit card if you go to the wrong one. I would not do it.

Good night!

there is a special software for you to do this. go to google and type in limewire. go to the first or second link, most probably and explore about limewire first and download it. It offers you songs for free download in WMP format, which could be transferred to portable media devices and CD's. it is quite reputed, safe and absolutely free.
Good Luck!!!!
