i got fired today, my first job ever, i worked there 6 months now, the thing im inquiring about is that when i was working with them they set guidelines to me that were not kept on their end and ended up in me getting terminated due to this....see i missed x amount of days, they told me i could miss alot more than x amount of days before i'd have to worry about any recourse whatsoever a strait quote from them, yet this morning i show up after a day i called in, and im "terminated" no further explination given, wtf? i feel cheated, and i dont hate these people even if it is just gone but i mean, wtf... if i ever thought for a second i'd lose it for calling i wouldnt have, i feel like i was lied to, and then just pushed out the door, should i look into calling a lawyer? its not a union job just fyi...if that matters, i have no clue on this kinda thing, it was my first job and i actually SORTA needed it, but not really i guess *sigh* just feels wrong, they tell me this, and then do that!

i appreciate some of your honesty and SOME of the harsh criticism, i still dont get why they say one thing and do another though, even if my work ethic isnt that of a 49 yr old hs diploma loser whos used to having a job that sucks and "taking it" like a good "employee"....i'll be glad when im back home going to college at this point *sigh*...best answer so far is the one about learning my lesson, i really did, and i dont mean that in the asshole way the rest of this comment puts off, thanks, your right, whats really sad is i'd gotten used to all the people that ran it and worked in it and now i think all of those ties as cut and its like losing a bunch of friends at once, eh, next good answer would be something along the lines of dont ever make friends with your employers lol, bad idea i guess, cause suddenly they all seem like snakes to me, and that sucks

vhy why have i heard of verbal contracts all these years? should what my employers say mean nothing to me in terms of anything? emphasize, cause your comment leaves alot to question at this point.... i'll review the contract if it matters, but i feel its pointless, i dont want the job back the further away i get......i want my last paychecks and to never see any of those liars again at this point, sia ****** nara

I don't know how often you call in sick, but more than one or two days in 6 months is too much!! They can terminate you for whatever they want, though.

you obviously didn't have a good enough reason for calling in , did you bring a doctors note ? put the effort that you would have getting a lawyer and get another job , it does suck that you were fired from your first job though , i bet you learned your lesson from calling in . your resume will look terrible , i definately wouldn't hire you if you can't keep a job for 6 months

They are wrong for giving you incorrect information, however you shouldn't have called out even 3 times in a 6 month period unless you're deathly ill. Thats very unprofessional.

What they told you was TOLD right? Because any precontractual agreements or oral discussion with regards to the contract between you and the company are USUALLY invalid.

Contract Law is a very broad and unique type of law.

They can fire you at will. That's the law in America. Besides it sounds like you deserve it. Although companies give you a set number of days you can call in sick you are supposed to be actually sick on those days not just playing hooky.

You can't be for real. If so, you deserved to get fired. I have no sympathy for you if you abused your rights, which it seems you did. Discipline is a great thing.

Don't play the victim. The reason you got canned is staring you in the mirror.

You took too many days off. How can you expect them to keep you around if you're never there? Lesson learned.
