Assuming you're a UK citizen you should be able to work in most European countries for a short period without needing a work permit or anything like that.

A good place to start might be your school or college's career advisors, they probably have some gap year books you can look at for ideas.

Also check out websites, lots of gap year websites are geared towards people doing expeditions and voluntary stuff further afield, but there is information out there. Try here:

Definitely take a year out, you almost certainly won't regret it. I know I'd never be where I am today if I hadn't taken one.

1. You're afraid to quit because your boss might fire you? What? Quitting is going to be uncomfortable, but you will survive. 2. We all make mistakes, and this one isn't a big one. Pick yourself up and keep going. 3. If you get the new job, then give notice at the old one. 4. Did you not know how much the club involved because you didn't think about it or because they didn't really tell you. (Sssh. Don't say anything. The new kid will take the photos. Don't scare the new kid off by teling the trush.) Either way, it doesn't matter. Quit the club. They'll be in the same place they were before you came along. The reason you avoid conflict is because of your father. Now that you're away from your father for part of the time, you can slowly learn to assert yourself when you need to, like when you're the one expected to show up at all the events.

Try this website www.gapyearshow.com - think it's in the GMEX in Manchester on 11th/12th November and in London in November some time. Loads of gap year info available there.

go travelling, get a working visa... looks good on your cv and uni's will be impressed... shows you can balance and manage finances, also that you are confident, independent and social too...
