i already mentioned in a question i asked in the past that i have nothing against gays and that i'm really interested in this subject without an explanation really, i will always support gays.
it's a question to everyone, but indyT, you especially seem to be protective of that subject
why do you think that people are out there to get you?
i don't know you, you might have had personal experiances. i could never know what it's like, unless i'll turn out biosexual.
but i don't think there is a need to be so over protective, because it's really the minority of peope in my opinion that are homophobes.
isn't it better to just look at everything more positivly?

Because I have seen it personally. I have been there. I have had people act as though they wanted to meet for a drink and find out later they had friends waiting to jump me (and I am glad I had my gun at the time). I have seen first hand that things aren't all sunshine and roses, there are some very sick people out in this world and ignoring the fact that there ARE people who think beating up others because of their sexual orientation(or skin color/religion) are perfectly acceptable. Read the news, a Guy in New York just DIED after meeting someone on-line, he went to meet a guy there were 4 there who robbed, beat and chased him into traffic where he was hit by a car...
Things are much better these days for the LGBT crowd, now at least the police in most places will investigate crimes of this sort. I know of places and times where beatings have occurred and the cops would simply laugh.
Don't be naive, it is safER today, but it isn't safe.

The link I have posted is a recent article from yahoo about the recent release of hate crime data by the FBI.
If it were "safe" there wouldn't be any such record or reports.

You're kidding right? Have you looked around this site lately? The outside general world is honestly more friendly than the GLBT section of yahoo questions. If this was my outlet for all things queer, I'd be awfully depressed and pessimistic. ESPECIALLY on this site, I do tend to assume that people mean things in the worst possible way until I have some reason to think otherwise (such as checking out other questions they've asked etc).

Looking at things positively is one thing, dealing with hate and intolerance is another. People are mean, and while those homophobes are in the minority, they still make lives of us GLBTQI's very difficult. People fear what they don't understand, and unfortunately don't want to learn about us and our lives.

That's easy to say when homophobia doesn't directly affect you.

My now deceased brother was ridiculed and beaten several times in his lifetime by ignorant jerks just because of who he was.

What a terrible way to have to live your life.

Because they are... Imagine living your life in FEAR that someone is going to attack you just because you are gay and open about it... I have never experienced it first hand. But i have experienced hate because i am an African American female. People are just ignorant.
