1 bag of white gravel with 2 bags of gray gravel, he will cover 40ft squared :
1(w) + 2(g) = 40

2 bags of white gravel with 1 bag of gray gravel, he will cover 35ft squared:
2(w) + 1(g) = 35

solve for each variable. i got that the white gravel (1 bag) would cover 10 sq. ft. and the grey gravel (1 bag) would cover 15 sq. ft.

1w+2g=40
2w+1g=35
1w+2g-5=2w+1g
1g-1w=5
10+30=40
so the answer einstein is
w=10 ft squared
g =15 ft squared
see
1(10)+2(15)=40
2(10)+1(15)=35
