They used to use them to take down small game and I believe even kangaroos. It consisted of 3 round weights (balls, stones) and string connecting them. They were tossed to either choke the prey or wind around their legs to prevent them from moving. What are these things called and can anyone give some sites about them (maybe Wikipedia?) Thanks in advance.

Bolos. Thouight that they were used in Argentina though.

The weapon you're describing is from Argentina, and called the boleadora. They are the traditional hunting weapon of the gaucho, the horseman of the South American pampas or plain.

That's not to say the Australians don't have something similar; some of the Web pages I found while Googling boleadora mentioned that they're used by the Inuit as well as the indigenous Andean/Argentinian peoples, and some good ideas are universal.
