Of course it is.
The veils are part of the religion, as much as turbans or yamulkes are part of someone's religion.
The certain types of clothing or hats that the Amish wear are part of their religion... and this deal in the UK with someone trying to ban Muslim women from wearing veils because it makes someone else uncomfortable is just plain rubbish.

this covering faces thing is more cultural, i.e; more corresponding to the place when women live.
there's Islam which doesn't compell women to cover their face (the hair, yes) and there are many ways to practice it. if u study a worldmap, u realize that the islamic world is huge, around 1 billion people dispatched between; I'd say, 80 countries, more or less, I 'm not sure; so, the culture of each country have automatically an influence on the way Islam is practiced and lived every day.
it's as simple as that.

by saying it is OK for the Muslim women to hide there face is like saying it OK to walk into a bank with a face covered by a full face mask. In america we regulate what our children can and cannot were to school and we can be told when we hired at a job we have to ware certian clothes. If we donot wear these clothes they have every right to fire you. If you want to wear what you want to wear in your own home it is fine. But I want to see who is working next to me or walking towards me. If I cannot see who it is this it is very uncomfortable and dangerous. you might have a gun under you robe or worse yet a homemade bomb. This is Americe adjust to the way we live we were here first and have our own way of life do not forse us to have it your way we are not McDonalds.

It is considered rude to cover your face when speaking to people in Britain - just as in some countries it is considered rude to show the bottom of your shoes.

If I was a woman and I went to a muslim country I would be more than happy to cover my face so as not to offend that countries people.

I do not think it is right to ban muslims from wearing a veil but I do think they should take a look around and see that it is not helping their situation by bieng defiant, and prehaps remove them by their own choice.

No! Why have a face if you are going to keep it covered? God never said that women should cover up their faces. It was probably invented by some insecure leader to stop men fancying his wife. Apart from that with all the troubles going on, people are suspicious of face coverings. I know I am.

The face veil is not an Islamic edict (it is strictly a custom of some Islamic cultures). The hajib is (the covering of the head is mentioned in the Qur'an). Wearing a hajib is no different than Orthodox Jewish women covering their hair with hats, scarves, or wigs.

I guess to cover the face, or not to cover the face, is a personal choice.

No, if they wish to be accepted into a society then they should abide with that countries customs and laws. The burka is intimidating and an insult to a free worlds ways. It's a separation from the host country and a declaration of creating a state within a state.
I have to take my motor cycle helmet off entering a petrol station or bank, how do they get away with it ??
Christians are made to remove purity rings and crucifixes so the same should apply to them.

Im a Muslim,and I say,yes its definately ok,because its part of Islam.
I dont cover my face, but I wear the head-scarf. The UK is prejudice.
Just because of Osama bin Laden, they're blaming Muslims for every bad thing that happens. Not all muslims are bad. The whole thing in UK reminds me of World War 2-Hitler was prejudice against the Jews, just like UK is prejudice against muslims.
I encourage you to wear the veil.

in any country that guarantees religious freedom you must allow it even if it makes the majority of people nervous.giving the minority the right to be who they are is the best way to protect the majority because in some way just about everyone can be a part of some minority.
