Assuming you're tall enough for center/forward position, work on your footwork in low post. Footwork is very important for guarding your counterpart, boxing out your opponent, rebounding, shot blocking, and scoring. Of course, you also need to have good hand-eye coordination for shooting/blocking.

Watch tapes of Shaquille O'neil.

well i am a preety good power forward on my middle school basketball team. i am in 8th grade i know that u must be thinking "what u know about b ball?", well all i can tell you is the fallowing:

ACT BIG: in basketball attitude is everything, you got to feel like you are big and strong. here are a few tips:

when u get a block, make a big deal about it say stuff like "get that outta here".
you should also tell your self stuff like "big man in the post" or, my favorite, "punishment in the paint" this is the only time dirty atitude helps. it helped me i am not a 7' 1" black man, in fact i am only a 5' 6" indian kid. ITS ALL ATITUDE MAN.

REBOUNDING: WHEN YOU REBOUND GRUNT REALLY LOUDLY, belive it or not thats a big part of rebounding. IT HELPS!!!!! remember to box out and jump only when you know where the ball will fall.

BLOCKING: most centers go for the big block every time, thats not nessasary, because most of the time when u go for the block you tend to be a little too excited to block it and 4 things can happen
#1 you get the block and the fame

#2he fakes u out and you get the shame

#3 he fakes, u jump, he takes the shot, u hit his hand, he gets fouled makes the shot and gets a chance at a three point play. everybody gets pist and all u get is the shame.

#4 he fakes you jump high and your teammates comes to help out. he passes to another player and the player makes the shot. your teamate gets pist at u.

as you can see you have 1 out of 4 chance to get the block, THATS LESS THEN 25%.all you need to do is get the hand in the face.
remember "you don't need to go for the block every time, u only need to make the person feel like u ganna block them" bill russel, the 6th best center in NBA history said that, not me.

PRACTICE!!!!!!
You have to practice to be good at basketball, or any other sport for that matter. Especially to be a forward in BBall. It's a really important position. Specific tips: get to be a really good dribbler, and keep up your free throw practice as well. Forwards are fouled about twice as often as other positions.

practice on your basic footwork for low post play and boxing out. Practice on your free throw abilitys. lots of running for conditioning and endless amount of shots all over the court.

Get really tall. Learn to shoot and dribble a basketball. Be able to run continuously.
