The best way is to tell her the truth. Any other way will come back to bite you.
Honesty will help her by letting her know whatever she did to hurt your feelings or upset you. That way she can avoid hurting someone else.
Keeping it real also helps you keep your relationships upfront and for real. True friendship sometimes hurts but you always know where you stand.

You didn't give us enough information to really be able to respond. But if Abigail has been your "good friend" for a long time, then anything other than she's stealing, doing drugs, etc., isn't much of a 'reason' to stop being friends with her.
And even if she is doing something to endanger herself or others, wouldn't a real friend try to help her instead of dump her? Give us some more information, and I'll edit this post. Otherwise, I think it's pretty selfish to stop being her friend.
You don't have to live in each other's pockets, but just dumping her is pretty mean.

Wrong category, but I shall answer anyway. "Abigail: I don't think we should be friends any longer because of x,y, & z." You fill in the x,y & z with your reasons. Or you can do what I would do: avoid her. Sure it's passive agressive, but it works.

If you don't want to be her friend, why do you care? Just come right out and tell her that you don't want to be her friend then.

Be honest with her and tell her how you feel and that you're not interested to be her friend anymore. Whether or not you want to tell her why you're doing this is your own choice.
