Gene has so many!
My late mother & I had a running joke about Gene. When ever I would turn on the tv. If you look hard enough, there is a Hackman movie on some channel........
Off the top of my head: Crimson Tide, The Package, Bat 21

Hooisers, Crimson Tide, The French Connection, off the top of my head. He is incredibly talented, in a leading role, paired with another actor, or supporting.

French Connection
Mississipi Burning
Hoosiers
In each of these, he was THE lead. Not a leading character.
He was important in almost all his films, such as the Firm, Unforgiven, Get Shorty etc.
But these are three memorable actual leads.

Depends on how you define "lead roles". Also depends on what time frame of his life and who he is starring with. Going by industry standards, these would be my picks:
"The French Connection" (1971) Best Actor Academy Award Winner
"The Conversation" (1974)
"Mississippi Burning" (1988) Best Actor Academy Award Nom.
Some consider "I Never Sang For My Father" (1970), "Hooisers" (1986) and "Class Action (1988) as lead roles.
"Unforgiven" and "Bonnie & Clyde" were noms for Best Supporting Actor. His role in "Bat*21" is considered a supporting role too.
