My dad told me a lot of stories about him and many old time fans think he's one of the great leaders of all time. He's best known for his Lions years.

Layne played for the university of Texas and held many records for them and was one of the first players ever inducted into the Cotton Bowl hall of fame.

1948 Chicago Bears
1949 New York Bulldogs
1950-1958 Detroit Lions
1958-1962 Pittsburgh Steelers

He was bigger than people remember too. 6'1" 210 lb. Also, he was a winner. He lead them to 4 division titles and 3 championships.

He's also famous for his partying. There were a few stories of him throwing up on the sidelines during games and many said it wasn't due to the flu if you know what I mean.

He was tough and a product of the 50's and was a man's man.

His Coach Buddy Parker @ Detroit, many times looked the other way, partially because he knew how good Layne was and he also liked him a lot.

Parker left to coach Pittsburgh and traded for Layne. Layne guided the pitiful Steelers to their best records ever; up to that time.

The great Doak Walker and fellow hall of famer said the famous line,"Bobby Layne never lost a game, time just ran out on him."

Bobby Layne was one of the greats of all time and always exciting, on and off the field.

Bobby Layne was a great quarterback, and a legendary drunk.
He played college at University of Texas.
He started his carrer with the Chicago Bears, but daBears were loaded a quarterback with the great Sid Luckman(#42) and Notre Dame Heisman winner Johnny Lujack(#32), so the daBears traded him to Detroit.
He was a superstar quarterback for the Detroit Lions, leading them to titles in 1952 and 1953 and had his #22 retired by them. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1957, where he spent his final 5 years.

Bobby Layne played for Texas, and in the pros, for the Bears, the New York Bulldogs, the Detroit Lions, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was known more for his leadership and determination than for pure athletic ability. According to Doak Walker, "Layne never lost a game...time just ran out on him." He appeared on the cover of Time magazine; this is depicted on the wikipedia page
