If Laura Mallory wants to stop her children reading the books then she has that right. What she doesn't have is the right to tell me or anybody else what my/their child should read. This is what leads to censorship. I hope the court tell her to get a life. They are books of fiction what doesnt this woman understand.

No, she needs to police her own children, I dont always agree with the way other people raise thier kids, the values they teach or the morals and ethics they abide by. tell this lady to MYOB! I do my best to teach my child my values and beliefs and hope she can make the best decision. She is 17 and so far so good. and BTW, she has read the entire Harry Potter series and is not evil or bad, in fact she is an honors student who will start college her senior year of high school! ( So proud of her, I had to brag) Has Mrs Mallory ever read the book? has she ever heard of freedom of speech? Does she have any idea how many children read becuase of the series of books? These books have greatly increased reading in young children around the world.

No she is insane and her children should be taken from her.
Her children should be able to learn there is a difference from fact and fantasy.
The school board id elected by the people. The principal is hired and has to answer to the school board. That is the principals job, not some nut.
Sad but true too many people give in to these loud mouth lunatics.

First of all she can't stop anyone from reading anything. Perhaps she means it should not be available in a school or public library but she couldn't stop someone from going ot Barnes and Noble and picking up a copy. And beside people already decide what is available to read. The school board, the library board, parents, etc...

Public entities have to cater more to the masses when it is a matter of opinion (as this is). You cannot cater to each and every whack job out there. Of course, her opinion matters and should be heard, but the final decision will depend more on the general populace.
Clearly, what a child reads outside of school is up to that child's parents to decide. Perhaps this woman needs to spend more time worrying about her own kids?
