Idon't know what to do or what is causing this to happen. I could be in the middle of something on line and suddenly a large grey box pops up and says Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to shut down, then you can leave the box checked and the comp. won't shut down but you have to start all over again. Can someone PLEASE help me stop this from happening.

Yeah I had the EXACT same problem. Our ISP is comcast so I called them up and they gave me some software to download and it's worked much better since. It's a virus of some kind...a really annoying one. I'd call your ISP or go to a computer store to see if there is any anti-virus software they recommend.
