First off would be a dirty carburator followed by improperly adjusted carburator moving on to incorrect timing and ending with a very well needed tune-up! Then there are many more but you only asked for four!

there is only one reason. the reason for a carbuerator to run rich is lack of air. now are four reasons that can cause a lack of air? well
1-dirty filters
2-loose/broken throttle cable
3-excessive fuel in mix even if air flow is adequate
4-fuel not burning due to electrical problems(distributor/timing)
i think there are many more than four
