Hi, Sorry it's hard to be sure without a picture. Could be a cricket or grasshopper, a sawfly or a wasp, although it's getting a bit late in the year to see any of those. In some of these insects, the 'barb' can be a sting, but more often it's a special organ for depositing eggs, so quite likely to be a female.
