I got my ears pierced and they have been healing for about 7 weeks. For the whole time they were healing, i used 14K gold ball earrings. And they didn't give me any problems. Then last weekend I bought these earrings from Claire's that were 9 pairs for $9.50. They said Sensitive Solutions on them, so i figured they would be fine, even if i was allergic to some metals. I put in a pair of blue ones and slept in them Sunday night, and wore them all day Monday, and slept in them Monday night, and i wore them all day Tuesday. Then Tuesday night i decided i would change my earrings to a different color.
I took them out, and looked at the earring back and it had some black stuff all over it. I had no idea what it was. Then i cleaned the back of my ear, and there was some black stuff on the back of my ear too. There was also some on my other ear also. I put my 14K gold ball earrings back in, and they are in right now. So what does that mean and what should i do?

Hey, i thought i was supposed to sleep in my earrings cuz its only been 7 weeks, and people said if i slept without them overnight, they would crust over and it would hurt to put earrings back in. Thats what i was told.
And i am really having trouble putting my earrings back in after i get them out, thats why i wore them for days straight! I cannot get them in!!!! I put it like halfway in, and they wont go all the way in, and i ask someone to look at the back of my ear, and they say they dont see the end poking through, and i try to push it in harder and it hurts!!
So dont tell me whats a fashion dont and a a fashion do because jesus christ im only 13!!!! :(

I have the same kind of problems, but only in my second hole, If your ear was painful, then that means that you're really sensitive to certain metals and you should only use real gold or silver earrings. But if there was no pain, that could just be a reaction to whatever metal is underneath the hypoallergenic coating, and all you have to worry abou is the gross discharge that forms around the earring post inside the hole to protect your skin from the metal. That's what happens to me most of the time. My second hole on my right ear gets infected from the tiniest little things, so I have to be careful about what I put in my second holes.

Always, always, always...and I repeat always clean your earrings (both the posts and the earrings themselves) first with alcohol and a cotton ball before wearing. What most likely happened is that a person who DID have an ear infection tried the earrings on right before you did, therefore spreading the virus. Your ears will be fine. You might want to see a doctor though about the infection. If you would rather not go to a doctor, clean your infected ear with alcohol every night before bed and cover the infected areas with Neosporin. Also, don't wear earrings again until it completely heals.

The new earings do that because they are of a lower quality then gold. I had the same problem, and that is what I was told. It helps to swab the back of your ears with alchohol every day as well. It prevents infection, and dicoloration. Also yes you are supposed to where earrings overnight for a certain period of time, or they will heal up, and it does hurt to reopen them, I have done that alot myself. I hope I have been of some help.

1) Never sleep in earrings. Take them off and clean your hole, put back in your originals for the night if you have to, but don't sleep in regular earrings.
2) Some people cannot wear synthetic materials in their ear. So just stick to real gold, real silver or nickel back.
3) It's a fashion DON'T to wear the same earrings two days in a row. Switch it up!

while you're like me, in case you place on earring that are actually not gold, silver or platinum, you'l get a rash on your earlobe. i can positioned on plastic or steel earring for some hours, say 5-6 without getting a rash. in case you do get the rash you are able to clean it with some alcohol.
