Let L = longer side and s = shorter side, then
L = 6 + s
P = 2L + 2s
44 = 2(6+s) + 2s
44 = 12 + 2s + 2s
44 = 12 + 4s
32 = 4s
8 = s
L = 6 + s = 6 + 8 = 14
Answer: L = 14 meters

Subtract the difference between the longer and the shorter sides from the perimeter: 44-12 = 32 meters
Divide the remaining length by 4: 32/4 = 8 metres
This is the length of the shorter side.
Length of longer side = 8 + 6 = 14 meters

You could solve this problem with formulas:
2X+2Y=44
Y=X+6
2X+2(X+6)=44
2X+2X+12=44
4X=32
X=8
Y=14
or
logic:
Two of the sides are longer than the other two by 6 meters each(12 meters total). So if you subtract 12 meters from the 44 meter perimeter you'd get the perimeter(32m) for four equal sides. Which you could then divide to find the length of one short side(8m). Then add on the 6m to find the long side(14m).

S = s +6
