Everytime I have listened to speaking appointments, I am amazed that we haven't elected someone as empathetic, for the people, and genuine as him into office sooner. My question is: How many of you would support Barack Obama if he were to be the Democratic nominee to the presidency in '08?

Definitely. He's just time away from being President. I think he still thinks it's a gamble running for 08 but I'd be shocked if he didn't run by 2016.
His speeches and oratory skills are great but I'm optimistic for many more reasons than that; his head and heart appear to be in the right place and this country could really do with someone like him.

Ok, here's the problem: Sen. Barack Obama is not the typical Democrat.
Why is that a problem?
Sen. Obama is a token for the Democratic party (by token I mean a person the rest will hold up as an example but does not represent the majority of Democrats that make up the Democrat party). Even he admits the Democratic party has lost focus.
I do not want to see another "party" President as we have seen with President Clinton and President G H W Bush. If he or anyone else can run and lead from the center, I will support them as a Presidential candidate. I do not believe President G W Bush is a "party" President (more conservative than most Democrats, sure, but not an extremist).
Hillary Clinton and 90% of the more outspoken Democrats cannot. There is also the question of his record, which I am not familiar with, so much remains to be seen, but, as always, I will keep an open mind.

I have listened to him speak on several occasions. I agree with you. I would also ad that he is an eloquent speaker. I would support him if he were the Democratic nominee for the presidency in '08!! I would even like him to replace Bush immediately after Bush is impeached!

I would. He's smart (Harvard Law Review editor) and articulate. 1/2 African so he's sort of international. And he took some kind of public interest job coming out of Harvard -- to help people when he could have made a lot of money as a Wall Street lawyer.

His keynote speech in '04 is one of the best political speeches I've heard in my life. I knew I was seeing a future president right then and there.

As I just answered in another question....I would vote for him without any doubts.
He's what this country needs regardless of his party.
As far as the people worried about taxes....you get what you pay for.
