longest length times the longest width gives you SQ. FT. add ten percent and and use the chart below
this will give you how many tiles
2x2 multiply your SQ. FT by 36
4x4 multiply by 9
6x6 multiply by 4
8x8 multiply by 2.25
10x10 multiply by 1.44
12x12 equals what your SQ FT is.
most tiles are sold by the carton with x amount per carton so you will have to round up to the closest carton.
EX.
7 ft 6 in x 5ft 3in = 7.5 x 5.25 = 39.37 SQ FT add 10% 3.93 = 43.3 SQ FT
2x2 = (x36) = 43.3 x 36 1,558.8 pieces
obviously there is a lot of rounding up and down in tile because there will always be waste.
Good luck

That is an excellent question. The number of tiles is not the same as the number of square feet that you will need to complete the project.
There are also other defining factors. How will you be laying the tile? If you are laying the tile straight you will use less that if you lay it on the diagonal. However, this is not normally the best way to go for a small bathroom.
To figure out the square footage for your job, you take the length by the width and multiply. The 7 x 7 bathroom will take 49 feet plus 10% waste for straight installation and 15% waste for diagonal installation.
If you are buying the tile from a tile dealer, you will most likely have to buy the tile per box. In this case if 11 feet came in a box you would need 5 boxes straight or 6 diagonal.
The associate at the store should be able to help you with this. If you are ordering on ebay, allow for some to be damaged in shipping.
Once more thing, make sure that you install the tile under the toilet. If you are doing the installation yourself, don't forget a new wax seal.
I hope this helps and good luck!

It depends on the size of the tiles you use. 12 x 12 is easiest, as 1 tile would be needed per square foot. But the new tiles are 13 x 13, which would make it harder to figure. Square feet is achieved by measuring length and width, converting to the nearest foot and multiplying. So a 10' x 10' room is 100 square feet. Always add 10% minimum materials to allow for waste and breakage, and it's a good idea to store a few extra tiles in the attic in case of future repairs. Good luck.

Lekk, if you think You only need fifty tiles for the floor, guess again. Vinyl tiles ar not always cut to perfect 12 x12 inches. Plus, you will be trimming around the toilet base and you'll need to give youself room for error. To calculate what you need for what comes up the walls, measure the total square footage of the area you need to cover. The box of tiles will tell you how much coverage you will yield from one box If you've selected a pattern to the tiles, you will ned extra pieces to match it all properly. Don't skimp, and if you are have any questions about the product or installation, ASK!

No of tiles used will depend on the area that you plan to cover with tiles.
Tile package comes with "coverage area" per box and No of tiles on the box.
e.g for a area of 1000 sq ft to be tiled.
Area to be covered 1000
tile size 2ftx2ft
Area covered per tile (sq ft) 4
consider wastage 5%
No of tiles in a box 4
No of tiles required 263
No of boxes required (4 tiles per box) 66
you would need 263 tiles of size 2x2 ft
