Wow! I never pondered this serious issue. This is probably something only science and the pizza makers can answer. I think I will open a pizza shop and offer circular boxes. It will be a most famous pizza shop and everyone will swarm in droves to check out the original circular pizza box. Gotta get cooking!

Ummm....have you ever seen a pizza delivered in a box???

The round pizza is made smaller to fit inside the square box.

Pizzas are easier to make and cook better if they are round. A square cardboard box is much easier to create than a round cardboard box. So, pizza parlors just leave extra space in the box.

some pizzas are square, like the new lasagna pizza at pizza hut, but if the pizza needs to be squae to fit in the box then the pan would have to be square too. wouldn't it be cheaper to make the boxes round?

They seem to fit pretty well. I'll leave it up to you to design a round box with a lid that you can easily open and close like a pizza box.

Not only would they fit better, the box would actually be full and you would have more pizza.

Not necessarily...?

If you haven't noticed..pizzas are smaller than their box.

You can't bake a square pizza, unless you bake it in a square pan.

Plus, it would be hard to cut it...because some people like the crust, andd the people who got the slices in the middle wouldn't have any crust.

All to do with costing....i work for a very large Pizza Company, and i asked this question at work, apparently it's all to do with the price and manufacturing entailed.
