The mission statement seems to say
Yahoo! Answers strives to make the community a safe and enriching place by encouraging our members to conduct themselves with a high degree of integrity, decency, and respect.
How have they encouraged decent respectful conduct by allowing repreat offenders who condone, support and encourage violence, intolerance and hatred ?
How as a community could we encourage everyone to stop answering the obviously illegitamate questions and just rate and report the repeat offenders?
It really is not worth 2 points to encourage them.(and if it is worth it to you.. why???)

If we don't turn the bashers and hate mongers in we cant blame yahoo. They want more than one complaint.

They SHOULD be aware, as they have been told so directly many, many times.
My impression is that they have beefed up the Report Verification staff, and are dealing with many more abuses than before.
I believe there is much more that they could and should do, but I've been seeing much improvement lately. [edit: I don't habitually come to this category; I usually start from Home or Best emails, and click questions -- just thought I should clarify.]
Report every abuse you see (you now get notifications from them that they are looking into them), and help them clean the place up.
One way I've been trying to encourage others to report is to spend (way too much) time in the Yahoos Answers category (YA squared, as it were), informing people of the Abuse Report system, as many don't seem to be aware of it, or think that thumbs do something about the problem of hate posts (which they don't).
Going by the Best Answers and "thanks, I didn't know this" comments I've been getting, I've at least gotten through to some users.
Explaining about it in this question might have helped, too.
But I agree with the sentiment. IF Yahoo wants this site to be a place for interesting answers and helpful advice, they need to make the guidelines, abuse report system, and the reasons for them MUCH more prominent.

I ignore the questions entirely. But I do report for vulgar language, hateful speech, and harassment. I'm sure it's very difficult for yahoo to go through each report. Besides they come back with a different name. We just have to wade through all the crap to get to the real questions. And for the religious crackpots who think they are doing gods work, just let them be it's obvious they don't have much of a life. So just skip the ones you find offensive, that's what I do.

I wish I knew. I think Yahoo really does hate us. That is why they do not police this community, but if we post in another section they certainly don't waste time deleting our questions.
This is what I now send with any report abuse post I send to Yahoo.
What I want to know is why you continue to allow these kinds of posts. I honestly believe you hate us as much as the bashers do. In fact I think that the gay community is becomeing aware of that hatred. I would hazzard a guess and say that the bashers probably work for Yahoo.

It's interesting to see just how much of a person's true self pours out through a monitor. Whether it's the unadulterated homophobia or off the wall racism, it truly serves as a gauge for this nation's intelligence. This furthers my hypothesis that America is not really the land of the free.. more like the land of the paranoid, cowardly, and sexually insecure.

That is exactly why I think the Gay community on here needs to file a class action againstt Yahoo. I have been saying this for days! Once we file the case we can subpoena Yahoo's records and file criminal actions against the subscribers who have threatened the lives of Gay members. It's agains the law to threaten someone's life and I see it day after day.

i honestly don't know why they don't just designate 1 person per shift to this particular category, that's all they would need to pull the questions down immediately and make it a better environment as their mission statement says.
a huge part of me thinks i'm the only hetero who comes to this section for the right reasons (by the way, that would be to show some support!)... and then i spend a lot of my time reporting those who do not.
just one person yahoo! that's all i'm asking, just one person per shift - i'm sure you can afford it - sheesh, i'd do it for free!

I agree with you to a point. It is still up to us to report those idiots who harass and offend. Unfortunately for us, they have so many clones and screen names that is is harder for Yahoo to police them. they have to block them at the source. I report when I think the need arises (which recently has been far too often). You may also use this link...given to us by Timmers...to report multiple offenders. Just make certain you're reporting for the right reasons and just not for harassment yourselves. It's a hard road to go on and it doesn't give immediate results. Bless us all.

Yes Yahoo is failing and I hope they are doing something about it. It erally disheartens me to see this happen. I use to enjoy this area of the internet and I have made some good friends here as well.

That's a very good question. I guess the only thing to do is report those offenders and not respond to their questions.

no, she's absoulutly right.
you poeple should just totally ignore them, it puts you all down, and the fact that you as part of the gay community actually answer them, hleps them to bring you down.
they only do it for reaction, and you fall for it.
So don't get it wrong.
and no, buckfush, they obviously don't understand wit and humour, so it's pointless
