I leave mine on 24/7 for years. only reboot when necessary to install programse etc. It is great, computer always ready, if you are trying to save pennies in utilities, don't do it. If you are worried about wearing down your computer, don't worry, the first part to go out will be your power supply and they have effective life of 100,000 running hours. by that time your computer will be so out of date you will need a new one anyway.

well i can tell you i have a DELL 8200 that I've had for 4 years and i only turn it off for lighting storms and maintaining it i have yet to replace any part, now with that said it is best if you plan on leaving it on to blow it out often and not to smoke ne'er it because smoke will coat the optics of your CD and /or DVD drives. a cooling sys wont hurt ether, i use a fan controller and have a hi flow though case, keeps my temp down to 74*

It's up to you. Leaving it on means those components are running 24/7, and component life expectancy is measure in thousands of hours. However, if you turn it off and on everytime you want to you use it, yes you aren't running your components constantly, but the biggest amount of damage you can do comes from that initial zap of electricty that hits your system when you turn it on. So, it is up to you where you feel more comfortable.

Personally I always leave my PC on but I close the monitor. This way the chances of damaging your hard drives is less than if you turn it on and off all the time. Note: to eliminate surprises use a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) and surge protection for your PC.

It's best to keep it running around the clock and let it "sleep" while you're not using it, but since you also need an air conditioner or a heater to keep it in good conditions, this will increase your electricity bill. To resume: it's good for the computer and bad for your pocket.

The longer you leave it on the more dust will accumulate inside...I like to leave mine on "Stand By" It turns off the fan and stuff but restarts real fast and right where you left off...

Either/neither. At home, I shut mine down. 8 years old, and still kickin'. At work, the box runs non-stop, 24/7, 365 a year. Still kickin'.

Do what you want.

it's generally better to allow it to constantly run. You can put power management into place (like, powering down the hard drive, screensavers, etc.) to reduce the usage while it is not in use, but keeping it on keeps it in tip-top electronic shape.

Turning it off and on all the time really wears down the electronic components. They heat up, cool down, then heat up again - and it makes them brittle and wears them out quicker.
