I think, with the current escalation of aggressive war and pre-war hostilites among so many countries, including the USA, it's inevitable that a nuclear device, or devices, will be used by someone, and probably fairly soon. Whether that escalates into an all-out nuclear war with near-immediate mutual assured destruction is still anybody's guess.

The thing is, whether you choose to believe it or not, we have a very real global warming problem that threatens the entire planet soon enough already. Whether large numbers of people die from the bombs or not, even a couple of above-ground nuclear explosions will speed that process up, and with it the probability of a rapidly occuring global winter, call it a nuclear winter or an ice age, or whatever you like.

The people who are rattling their sabers and touting war as a solution to our religious and ethnic disputes really need to pull their heads out and see the big picture. They're so afraid of losing power in the global hierarchy; what good is their global ranking going to do if they don't use it first to save their own lives from their own stupidity?

No I dont think it will happen. First America will never disarm ever. This country has that whole if I dont do it it wont get done right syndrome. Until we can come to the agreement that dollar isnt God, then we will never be willing to truly work towards peace with other countrys.
America has a long history of saying one thing and doing the opposite in the effort to chase the almighty dollar.
I just dont believe that any person or country no matter how crazy would destroy the earth to make a point.

Nuclear war will happen. It's not a doomsday thought. It's a realistic thought based on current world affairs. They(any of the nut-jobs out there) will likely start it and we'll finish it.

You can bet we'd be nuked in a flash -no pun intended- if WE disarmed.
and we'll never simply make anyone disarm, we just do our best to prevent third world dictators from getting nukes.
And that policy won't work forever, who knows what we'll be doing in twenty or fifty years.

we can't do it all at once; that would just be shooting ourself in the foot with a big a s s nuclear gun. i hope we can all disarm one day, but that day appears further off today than it did after the cold war.

screw that. America needs nuclear weapons. its the target of every terrorist, dictator, jealous nation, etc. to ask America to get rid of its protection should be considered treason.
