Petluver and Quasar have the right pet! I think it is awesome that Quasar knows that little bit about rats looking for land mines in Africa. I was impressed when I learned that too. My pet rat "Grimmy" and I watched that special together on animal planet or Discovery, while he sat in my lap.

I have trained my rat to do all kinds of things. Rats should walk around with signs that say "Will work for food". They will do anything for food. When I get home, I let him out of his cage and he follows me around. He comes when he is called, walks on a leash, stands up pretty and steals money from wallets. What more could you ask for?

Rats are loving, kind and very smart. They are also cheap and smell okay. You can give them a bath on occassion as well.

Though the rat is just a rat, I would give mine anything it needs, including vet care.

Good Luck and Take Care

Buy a guinea pig. You can get one at a rescue or from a breeder or pet shop for about 20-30 bucks. They are cute, like to be held, you can feed them by hand, they dont bite unless they are EXTREMELY provoked, and they are easy to maintain. I love mine. They are long -haired guineas that I got from a breeder in MI. Best pets I ever had.

turtles, lizards, fish, rats, hamsters- they are all small and dont really require much taking care of, other than feeding it and cleaning the cage/tank every now and then. they also dont make a lot of noise, unless the hamster is running on a hamster wheel or something.

I think a hamster is the best pet for you, they sleep all day while you are out, and when you get in they wake up and entertain you and keep you company. If you have a cat it`s like tv for it. you can watch your hampster run around it`s tubes and the cats head roll around watching it, great fun.

i would reccomend a rat (yeah most people hate them but the ones that give em a try usually love them) They cost around 4$ food 4$ and cage 30$. Very cheap, amazingly smart, very nice and loving, i've convinced over 6 people to make a rat part of their family and they all love them (ive had two Gary and Ratie lol) I love ratie but he died of cancer :'( BUT gary is still with me and i love him and he goes everywhere with me (he fits in my pocket)

fire belly toads are pretty easy to maintain. They don't smell unless you forget to change the water every once in awhile. Also dwarf hamsters or fish

I used to have pet rats they do not stink if you keep their cage clean! Plus they are very cheap to maintain.

got to be a RAT they are clever friendly clean don't smell & you can train them to do things, they train rats to find landmines they find them & sit on them as they are to light to set them off & they train quicker than a dog & are cheeper.
