He was NOT the brother of Teddy Roosevelt. He was elected the President of the United States for four terms; that's 16 years. He held office for longer than any other President did or ever will because after his death Congress passed a law limiting the Presidency to two terms only. Roosevelt was President during the Depression in the late 20's and early 30'. He developed many federal programs to put people to work and help work our way out of the depression. He was the founder of social security which was originally intended to SUPPLEMENT people's income during retirement. It was never intended to be a pension to live on, although many Americans today think it is.
