The best toy depends on the child... He may like one thing today and tomorrow not play with it. Men of course like their kids to have men toys... I think if you give him a toy and play with him with the toy he'll think that's the best toy in he world.

One year olds love to put small objects inside of containers and take them out again, knock down stacks and piles, pull things behind them, and make loud sounds. Some toys that do this are boxes with holes that you have to fit shapes into, blocks, stackable cups, those toy phones you pull with a string, and pegs that you pound in with a hammer. For boys, cars and anything with wheels are always fun.

There's this great drum that my son loved. When you hit it, it will either count to ten or say the ABCs. Even if he doesn't understand it now, he'll have fun hitting it. You can also set it for music when he hits it.

Give lots of hugs and kisses and play lots with him. (Well, not in that strange perverted way, just in that family, I think you're cool way.)

Or anything - clothes, a cardboard box or anything else anyone mentioned. One year olds really don't care.

A great big helium balloon. My son was nuts for his.

His other favorite toy is a $5 ball just the right size for him to throw.

After that I think the Leapfrog alphabet bus.

Baby Einstein has great videos. Baby Einstein uses real world objects, music, art, language, science and nature to introduce young children to the world around them in fun, fascinating ways. For children ages from 0 and up.

Also they have books, flash cards and toys.

Great stuff I used it with my children.

push toy... one that he can hold and push around that converts into a car! I think Fisher price makes it... you might get a bargain if you shop around especially around this season... you might get an extra toy...For $20... you get your money's worth and a big smile from the baby

A cardboard box?

Really, I doubt the 1-year-old cares.
