To find the x-intercept, set y to 0:
2x = 20
x = 10

To find the y-intercept, set x to 0:
-.5 y = 20
y = - 40

The x-intercept has a much greater value because the y-intercept is negative.

To solve for the x intercept you put 0(zero) in for y. since 0X5 = 0 then you are left for 2x=20. I think you can solve that part from there.

To solve for the y intercept on the next equation you put zero in for x which gives you 3X0 =0 and leaves you with -0.5y = 20. You don't even have to solve the problem since the first equation will give you a positive answer and the second will give you a negative answer then the x intercept is the largest (because it is positive). Work through the equations though. Your teacher will want you to show your work.

First of all, you have to look at a graph. The x-intercept occurs when y=0 and the y-intercept occurs when x=0.

Let's look at the first equation...
2x + 5y = 20
The x-intercept occurs when y=0. Therefore...
2x + 5(0) = 20
2x = 20
x = 10

The second equation....
-3x - .5y = 20
The y-intercept occurs when x=0. Therefore...
-3(0) - .5y = 20
-.5y = 20
y = -40

Therefore, the x-intercept is greater than the y-intercept (10>-40).

the x intercept is 4; the y intercept is -40.

x intercept:
2(0) +5y = 20
5y=20
y= 4
(0,4)

y-intercept:
3x-.5y=20
-.5y=20-3x
(divide both sides by -.5)
y=-40 + 6x
(-40, 0)
