Why can't I save gifs to my computer?

When I click on a gif and then click save as the picture will not open. What am I doing wrong?

Check to be sure that the file extension (the .gif part) is staying the same.
Some systems automatically try to save it as a different type of file. Also check to see what your computer is using to try to open it with. Explorer is what I use.
