First, they should look and give her the reason why her baby is so small.Because when I was pregnant the doctors amde me think that my daughter was fine and she was gaining weight like she was suppose to,but they didn't know the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck and that stopped her from gaining weight and they say they didn't know anything until I had her she was born 3lbs and 6ounces.I thought I had a healthy baby with weight and everything I was eating she wasn't getting, the reason she was born early is because my water had broke the doctors said if it hadn't broke when my due date had come around my baby would not be here today. And I'm blessed because I had to learn things on my own,but just tell to eat food that have some fat or grease on it to fatten the baby or something she likes to eat that will stick to her stomach.Good Luck and God Bless

I dont think there is much she can do. If she smokes she should cut it out, if she has a cavity she should get it looked after, She should not have any sex, and mabye even take to bed rest, Im not doctor but because the baby is that small she should not want to have preterm labour because a baby that small is going to have a lot of complications and those above things cause preterm labour. I was thirty six weeks and one day when I had my baby and she was 6lbs five ounces...but a lot of babies are smaller then that at that age. And as a note i was measuring four weeks small for dates, it was just the way my abdo muscles kept her locked up close to my body.

Sometimes these things are inevitable, unfortunately there may be no magic solution. Unless, your doctor tells you otherwise. The best your daughter should do is take optimum care of herself. Eat , drink pre-natal vitamin, exercise(if allowed) etc. No unhealthy habits, such as smoking, 2nd hand, or drinking/drugs should be done. And never underestimate the power of prayer. Science can only take us so far, where God picks up the rest. But Doctors do have more knowledge then say even 3 years ago about preemie's. If the baby is indeed born early make sure the best pre-natal specialist is available. And if she /he is born underweight, many options available for that little one to strive. Just know who will be taking care of the baby in the hospital, and check his or her credentials. Make sure they are specialized in new-Born's. Best of luck to all of you.

If there was, don't you think the doctor would've told her? If she has been under the care of a doctor throughout her pregnancy, he must have made recommendations to her to help her baby before now. Either she was not following through, or there is some condition that is causing this which cannot be determined and/or treated at this late date and it will be best to remove the baby from an environment in which she is clearly not able to flourish.

Tell your daughter to double up on her pre-natal vitamins, eat lots of high fat and high protein foods and do as little as possible physically in order to gain weight. If she gains weight eating a fatty, high protein diet, the baby will gain weight, too. Best of luck and don't worry, the baby will be fine!

don't worry, i think the baby will turn out just fine :) just let it loose she will be ok because in two weeks it should probably gain at least another pound and even if the have to take it out i think the baby wil be fine because there are 1 pound babies that survive and are still alive today

Have her eat lots of SUGAR -- any kind of sugar she can get her hands on. I know this isn't the best thing healthwise for your daughter, but if her blood sugars are consistently high, her baby's sugars will be high too; thus baby will grow!! Good luck!

I mean no offense whatsoever, but is it possible your daughter is using? Within two weeks, the only thing I can think of to put weight on is milk shakes, ice cream, that sort of thing.

She really needs to talk to her doctor about this. Seems the baby is not absorbing the nutrients from the mother. Talk to the OB.
