Okay since you posted this in the notebook section, I will only talk about the notebook versions. They are both dual core processors, but the Core 2 is much better. The Core Duo is still based on the same architecture as the Pentium M, it just has 2 cores instead of 1. The Core 2 Duo is based on Intel's brand new core microarchitecture, which runs much faster and uses less power. Hence, the Core 2 Duo is much better.
