Quality over quantity.

I have 2 good friends, which are people who don't judge me and that I'm not afraid to turn to.

The others that I talk to is for small talk, laughing, and convenience. These are acquaintances.

I feel the word "friend" is used too often. I think if a person knows something that most people don't know about you then they can be considered a friend, but if you just hang out with someone, then I think that is more of an acquaintance.

I really don't use the word friend. There are 3 ladies in my life that I call my sisters (in addition to my 2 biological ones). The rest are acquaintances.

When I say friend, I mean friend. Otherwise I say acquaintance, colleague, whatever fits.

In my opinion the word friend is tossed around too much and too easily but people are different.

Yes, it is, just like the word "love".
I have a handful of true friends: mainly my BF, my parents & brothers, & a couple people I consider family. Otherwise, just co-workers & acquaintances.

Yes and it ends up hurting people. Usually it's used to make you feel secure with someone so that you tell them the low down on what's going on. Then it usually ends up as gossip and they go back to liking you when everyone else does.

The word friend is overused, at least in the U.S.

You'll hear people refer to "real friends" when they mean someone who's more than just an acquaintenance.

These days, "friend" seems to mean anyone who isn't a rival or an enemy.
