I used to have direct tv but now i have dish. Overall, I liked direct tv better. there is a better set up, all your music channels r together(mtv, cmt, gac) unlike dish network. I liked the plans and the pricing for what you get, and the way they do there movie channles. The only good thing about dish is the fact that they have the cw in hawaii and direct tv doesnt unfortunatley but thats not there fault the wb changed to the cw. So, I would go with Direct tv.

Plus dvr on dish network sucks. We have it hooked up for 2 rooms and you can only do 2 things at once, record a show on both tvs, record on one and watch on the other or watch on both. direct tv you can watch while something is recording, you can record 2 things at once if you want and watch tv.

Programming and cost are almost identical but there have been horror stories about customers trying to exchange equipment and cancel services from Dish Network. I never had that problem with Direct TV.

I like direct better. I guess this may be because I can't get the NFL game package from dish. Outside of that, they are about the same. I think the price is way out of control for watching TV, but so is the price of everything. Taxpayers were the ones who paid to put them up there in one way or the other. At least it was technology derived from NASA that put the satellites up there to begin with, so I feel like they used us to get this antenna in the sky to us, and I cuss every time I have to pay that much to those companies for the service. We got used!! I realize it cost a lot of money to put them together and get them up there, but shouldn't the tax payers get some of that money back? Just Venting man! Good Luck!!!

Direct TV

I happen to like Dish Network better myself because in the area that I live, they are the only company that carries my local tv stations. (Albuquerque, NM) They are basically the same otherwise . . . I just happen to have more experience with Dish Network. I like Dish's quality and customer service - they seem to have less incompetent people working for them. Other than that, reception and channel selection are very similar.

Had them both and will never have satellite again!

I live in eastern NC, close to where all the hurricanes like to "visit" and when it gets cloudy out, you aren't watching any TV!
Even when it was just regular storms or rainclouds, we would loose signal. Not too handy when you need to know what was going on around you! I got cable and was able to watch TV and surf the web while it was storming outside during the last few hurricanes.

It's all a matter of choice though. You could have lousy cable service where you live and satellite would be the way to go.

Dish network has less hassle, but you should look at the cahnnels you want each offers some channels that the other doesn't have.

I've had both. Direct is better. The only problem is they keep repeating the same tired programming OVER and OVER.

FYI I don't get any extra cost channels, so that must be their way of encouraging you to spend more money.
