i have herd many many things, and i am currently waiting to hear back from my grndfather abou tthe freemasons. i have heard that they are nothing but a "helping hand" so to speak that they just help others in need, and help eachother. i heard things about cults and the higher up worshiping the devil. i have also heard that they do not follow any religion, as well as they are a religion. i have been told that they are based on a "secret" whatever that may be. i have heard that they have a part in major religions and other cults, such as catholics and the LDS (mormons). i also heard that their teachings are by mouth only so things can change and that they teach things condradicting to the bible. i am not bashing and not condoning. i am simply asking cause im not real sure what to believe. i do believe there are cults that claim to be religious to save their name, and there are some organizations that are not cults but everyone seems to think they are... so help me out a bit here?

The Freemasons date back to the 16th century in Scotland. They are an organization that uses the working tools of stonemasons to teach their members moral truths. They are NOT a religion, there is NO Masonic Bible, they do not carry on devil worship. In order to join, you must be a man of legal age with a good reputation and believe in a Supreme Being. You must ask to join, no one will ask you. Their stated goal is to make good men better. Masonic organizations in the United States give more than $1.5 million a day to charities. Masonic Lodges are dedicated to improving their communities and the men who are their members.

Two excellent books are:

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Freemasonry

It is true they consider themselves an organization of secrets (not to be confused with a secret organization). Only men can be free masons. They are a religious group that helps out others and each other. My dad is a Mason and I know he would never be a part of a cult or worship the devil. As far as anything else about them I do not know. Hope this helped some.

My belief is that although they claim an ancestry from the Templar Knights and other secret societies, at this point, they are basically just a networking society. You're in politics, you go there to meet other politicians and businessmen. I don't think they are all bad (many of the founding fathers including George Washington and Ben Franklin were Freemasons). I think a lot of worse stuff happens with lobbyists and political donations, so I don't spend a lot of time worrying about them in particular.

I'm really glad you asked this question. My grandfather was a freemason and now I have a cousin that is a freemason.
When I asked my cousin why he became a freemason, he said that it would enable him to give back to his community. Freemason's do a lot of work in their communities for the betterment of their communities.

The Freemasons were started by Jefferson, Washington, and other Presidents. It is considered its own religion, although is considered a cult in most religious textbooks.

They have some strange rituals including appearing naked and blindfolded during the induction ceremony.

They have their own"Bible" in a secret code and they don't believe in God, I don't think.

Free masons was a club for brick layers in the days of Alexander the Great. It was a club to share information and brick laying techniques. Today, who knows.
