I agree with the others, Joanne Fabrics have classes but if you have free time at work at the sewing machine at your disposal, why not try to learn on your own? You can get an inexpensive pattern at a Walmart or other discount store, get some inexpensive fabric (I get most of my fabric at Walmart for $1.00 to $2.00 a yard) and practice doing straight stitches, zigzag stitches etc. Probably one of the easiest patterns I found was to make a purse-just 3 sides (lined or unlined) and you can purchase the handles at any craft store or take some from an old purse you don't want. With straight stitches you can make accent pillows-again just 3 sides, stuff and close up the opening. I learned on my own many years ago and now I can reupholster sofas, chairs, loveseats and make matching draperies. Lots of luck to you!

try your local Fabric store they usually have sewing classes for free and if you have Internet access I found a good site that teaches you everything from measuring to whatever else http://www.sewing.org/

Any local sewing and vaccum shop will have someone who can teach you.
