Look dear,if the blood pressure is moderately elevated, you don't have to take more than a diuretic as furosemide [lasix],If it's highly elevated, this is so dangerous & may lead to serious complications as cerebral haemorrhage, but to know it's much more dangerous to be lowered rapidly & I'm going to tell you a situation that happened with me,I'm a 5 th year medical student, but here we don't deal with patients except after we graduate ,a neighbour of us was ill & they asked me to see him till a doctor comes,so, I went.I measured his blood pressure & found that it's 220/130,This is a medical emergency ,so,I gave him lasix & nifidepine[epilat] sublingual, the later drug causes rapid vasodilatation causing rapid decrease of blood pressure & it's taken sublingual only in case of angina pectoris to induce vasodilatation of coronaries & stop the anginal pain immediately. But in case of high blood pressure it must be taken orally to elapse adequate time till its action is on.So the pressure which was 220/130 suddenly became less than 100/60 i.e hypotension & the patient felt severe tachycardia & palpitation. When the doctor came ,he told me you know what you did is like heating a piece of metal to melting point & then throwing it into cold water.
So answering your question I'll say, lasix IM or IV +nifedipine[epilat] ORALLY.
I hope I could help.

See some good answers. Go to see your doctor. High blood pressure isn't called the silent killer for nothing. What are you calling high blood pressure?? If it is diagnosed as hypertension then it needs to be lowered gradually ideally 120/80 or less for a goal. Depends on other factors such as diabetes, high cholesterol etc..ALL of which need to be checked by a medical provider so GO. Medications help greatly with the addition of lifestyle changes. If your lifestyle is so poor, that may be all you need. There is also the curse of family genes. Go see your doctor.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

If she is feeling really bad - symptoms like headache, chest pain, shortness of breath - she should go to the emergency room immediately, even if she does not have insurance. Symptoms like that can be a warning about possible stroke or heart attack. It is called a hypertensive urgency or hypertensive crisis, depending on the situation. It is an EMERGENCY. If she is pregnant (I don't know how old she is) she should also go IMMEDIATELY to an emergency room no matter how she feels since that would likely be a condition called eclampsia which can be fatal to both mother and baby. There is not much you can really do on your own in short order to lower BP very much. However do not exercise since that will raise BP higher . Go to the ER now. If that is physically, not financially, impossible (only if you are in outer space or snowed in in the back country in the Himalayas or something is it physically impossible ) then go on bed rest immediately. Avoid salt and high sodium foods and avoid caffeine. Bottom line: Go to the doctor or ER now. You don't want your mom to have a stroke or heart attack while waiting to go.

There are many meds on the market. Lie down immediately. If you haven't seen a doctor for high blood pressure, you should. I take Accupril or Enapril.

Prescribed medication. Any other action you can take will take time to kick in eg weight loss, lower salt intake and de-stressing.
