Now there are 4 1853 half dimes.First you need to look to see if it has a mint mark. Look above the bow on the back of the coin, if no mint mark it was minted in Philadelphia, if there is an O, then it was minted in New Orleans. That is the only two place they were minted that year. One more thing now, check the date and see if there are arrows there. They made with and without arrows. Now lets try to grade it. If entire liberty visible but with weak spots it grades fine. If the entire liberty is strong and even it grades very fine. There are grades above and below, but I am limited for space here. Now for prices, these are retails so expect to get 40 to 50% less if you sell to a dealer. The first price is for grades fine, the second for very fine. No arrows no mint mark $75.00,$150.00. No arrows O mint mark $400.00,$700.00. Now with arrows at date, no mint mark $30.00,$40.00 same with O mint mark. Of course if the coin grades less it is worth less and if it grades higher it is worth more. Remember these are retail prices. Hope this helps.

There are a couple of different varieties of 1853 half dimes with a range of different values depending on the particular variety and mint mark. The mint mark is on the reverse (back) of the coin near the bottom. If there is a "O" there you have something a little special. Go to pcgs.com/price list to get a good idea what the coin is worth.

This isn't a "Higher Education" question. It sounds like a homework question to me. And you should do your own homework. If you don't understand how to do the problem, review your textbook or ask your teacher or your parents.
