How can anyone downgrade a music that expresses a persons feelings or opinions?

Rap is a MUSIC, just like country, rock, or hiphop......why do people have to downgrade so much? It's so stupid when people think that just because they don't have the same opinions as an artist makes it bad material.....So Retarded!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apologies if I'm being cheeky, but might I give my interpretation of your question, as I think the people who have answered so far have misconstrued it somewhat. I take your question to mean not lyrics, or even vocals in general, as these are fairly easily interpretable mood-wise. Instead I take it to mean why, for example, a minor chord is sad, why a diminished chord is tense, maj7 airy and so on. Furthermore, why is, say, the progression 'E, E7, A' aesthetically pleasing while 'E,Em,D7' isn't? It's a great question, and I'll be damned if I know the answer, but perhaps my offering can help provoke some interesting thoughts and perhaps bring to light what makes music musical :)

Maybe because Rap takes little to no talent. The only truely talented people in the rap profession are the Producers, and even then, only a handful of them are worth a damn. Even then, Producers aren't actual musicians. Learning how to work a mixer isn't nearly as complicated as learning how to play a guitar or a drum kit. That's why people dog Hip Hop.

Rap is music. Some people just don't like it because nowadays much of the content is saying the same thing....money, girls, cars, jewelry, etc.
