All these views are consistent and make perfect sense together if someone bases their opinion on the sanctity of life. I however believe wars can be justified, I am pro choice(not pro abortion, but anti government interference in personal life decisions such as having a family) and I am pro death penalty. I believe in the sanctity of life, but understand there is no black and white on any of these subjects.

Your friend has an elevated view of their own worth and none of anyone elses. Get away from them because they will abandon you in your hour of need. Many cultures teach their citizens these beliefs and are impoverished because these beliefs, group people into catagories which are inhumane to individuals.
I noticed one individual mentions that these are Catholic beliefs which makes sense, thinking of ones own salvation while others suffer around one is not in following with a loving faith system. Neither Jesus or Paul teach that giving to the church frees one from helping others as they command, yet the Catholic system does?
By the way, one can be against a war, an abortion, and a death penalty that is waged for the wrong reasons, but it requires strength and intelligence to go against popular opinion, so perhaps your friend has a log in their eye and cannot see that they are able to label anothers action because they are intimate with such actions.

What is weak is blindly going along with prevailing opinion.
I believe we need to get the Iraqi people on their feet as quickly as possibly, because we made the commitment. We have to follow through. Hasty withdrawal will endanger the lives of US and Iraqi troop. Abortion should be legal, but our focus should be on birth control (not getting pregnant). I am against the death penalty. It is nearly always a punishment for the very poor. That's just my opinion.

As for myself, I am against the war and against death penalty, but I believe that it is impossible to be against abortion unless you find yourself in the very unconforable situation of needing to do it: it could be considered as the only possible solution to worse situations. So I believe that people that are against the three things are not stupid, but only that they apply thoroughly the principle of respecting life, without regarding the problem of the quality of life.

They are not inconsistent beliefs, and your friend seems to be of the exact opposite point of view, which is only odd because most pro-lifers vote Republican, and are for war & the death penalty.

I do not like the idea of any of those things, but the main one for me is Abortion. I don't see how people think that is ok.

I can't see how it is weak to be anti-abortion. Abortion is murder and I am totally against it in all circumstances.

There's nothing stupid about those beliefs. They happen to be the positions of the catholic church, and they seem quite consistent to me. Although I don't agree with it.

That is called consistency....or following an argument to it's logical end. Your friend is apparently unable to do that.
