You'll be perfectly fine. The generalisation that South Africans are racist is a fallacy at best. Yes, you will find backward idiot racists among the population (as it is in any other country) on all sides of the colour line, but these people do not form the majority.
No-one will look at you any differently.
Your greatest concern is crime, but South Africa is not the warzone or quasi - Zimbabwean "kleptocracy" that many advocate it to be. Take precuations as you would normally do and you should be safe.
If you are in Cape Town places like the Stellenbosch and Durbanville wine routes in Cape Town are stunning. Franschoek has absolutely amazing food as do Moyo at the Spier and the Spier itself.
If you're into clubbing Cape Town offers a good variety of clubs, bars and pubs and the Camps Bay strip buzzes all day and at night as well. What makes it perfect is the fact that most of the venues in Camps Bay are about 500 m away from the beach.
The other beaches are great too. If you drive out toward Simons Town you can swim with penguins at the Boulders beach. And if you are arriving within the next 3 - 4 months you'll enjoy our great summer weather.
The shopping facilities are also on par with some of the best in world (according to some, I'm not a great shopper).
Have fun. Be safe.

I think this is where I , a South African should give a little insight. Yes, South Africans generally are rascist, but it goes both ways (white on black, black on white, black on coloured, coloured on black and so on and so on). Unfortunately though the world only recognises white on black racism. That said I must also say that you won't be discriminated against for being Latin. We really do love having tourists, although we do have a certain criminal element that hold sno respect for life or dignity. So, make the trip, you'll be welcomed with open arms. But make sure to get as much info about the places you plan on visiting, so that you can travel safely.
EDIT: afetr reading some of the other replies from fellow South Africans I must add the following: Not all South Africans are racist but yes it does exist and as I have already mentioned its not only directed towards one group of people. Honeslty, (though many won't admit to it for some blind reason) every South African has experienced rascism or discrimination of some sort first hand, whether thay are white, black, coloured, or any other race for that matter.

Yes, we are all racists as I am South African and the truth is some whites hate the blacks and some blacks hate the whites. About 90% of the crime is commit ed by the blacks. They kill their own people, rape, steal, hi-jack and this is the reason for South African being racists. Many have no manners and push you out the way. Some think South Africa belongs only to the blacks and are jealous of the whites. What they don't know is that everyone was created by the same person and just cannot accept to make peace with each other. If they were more thoughtful and friendly, we will have a better understanding. Most have accepted stories from their aged parents and believe what they are told.

Yes there are racists like in any country, but you're very unlikely to encounter any problems with racism. I live in Cape Town and the people are so friendly.. The city is so diverse!! It really is very amazing! Look at the following quotes:
"Chris Matthews, host of CNBC Hardball, New York who filed reports from SA when he was here with his family in the December holidays: "The real South African story has gone unreported. People here are dealing with others as people..It is a scene of harmony and hope I didn't expect to find, not in SA, not yet?"
Denever from Colorado said the following about Cape Town: "By far, the friendliest people we have encountered anywhere in the world, and we have seen a bunch of it. ALWAYS felt safe (with basic common sense) and the people seem to go out of their way to help you have a great time. An absolutely contagious attitude down there, from everyone we encountered, white, black or colored. Never seen so many smiles in my life."...
So yeah, you'll have a great holiday in SA

Some people who answer these questions are CLEARLY not South African so don't listen to the bad things. Like in every city in the world, Cape Town and the rest of SA are not racist. We are grateful for the tourists that come to SA and i myself live in Cape Town and I haven't heard of seen anybody being racist to a tourist.
So chill and enjoy what we enjoy every day!!!!!!!!!!

There are racist people across the globe so yeah you'll find a few here & there.
I'm from Cape Town
If you like to club then I suggest you go to Long Street (thats where most of the foreigners club)
If you like to go sightseeing go to Franschoek or go around the peninsula (around Cape point)
If you love to shop go to Century City Canal Walk! (apparently its the biggest mall in Africa) - i beg to differ though!
If ya just wanna chill then laze around on Camps Bay beach - you should defnitely come in Summer (theres allot of hot guys & they love latin chicks here!
I hope you gonna love Cape Town

You will have a wonderful time in the very cosmopolitan city of Cape Town. Yes, you're right, there have been racial tensions in South Africa's past. However, today's South Africa, and especially the larger cities such as Cape Town, are welcoming to tourists from every country and race. Please don't worry about the color of your skin. They'll be thrilled with the smile on your face!

I'm a white South African and have many friends of many races, including a Brazilian.
This is social stereotyping, and in actual fact most South Africans are very friendly and open to people of all cultures and races.
If you should per change come across any racists, you'll find they are more racist towards black Africans than any other race, so as a Latin person you'll be fine.
