There was a follow up programme something like 20 years after that photo, where they traced the woman to see her today.
It was fascinating.
Go to Image search on Yahoo, type in Afghanistan girl and you'll see what is either the original or follow up articles.

Actually, both articles are there. The follow up is called Behind the Search for the Afghan Girl

Very famous photo taken many years ago. There was a thing about where she is now in the paper a few years back. She was wearing the full veil. Think shes from Afghanistan.

Wariness - almost accusing. So much has happened to her that she doesn't know what to trust any more. It's such an amazing photo, but at the same time so sombre and oppressive; it captures everything about her situation.

Lots of emotions here. I like the photo because of it's quality, but am also wary of the feelings it produces.

I can see pride and fear and mistrust, but also strength and perception. I knew I'd seen that photo before somewhere, now I know where.....

it definately looks edited.... perhaps the shape and color.... eyes can be intense, but it doesnt look like they are hers..... yes, it's an intense photo, and it conjures up a number of emotions.... but i just dont buy that it hasnt been altered....
