Jesus never mentioned gays, sex, or stem cells; only love, forgivness and hejping the less fortunate. St. Paul said the the LOVE of MONEY was the root of all evil.

That's a good question. In the New Testament Christ says the two greatest Commandments is to love God above all things and your neighbor as yourself. The Sermon on the Mount basically sums up the basis of Christian doctrine. Even the Old Testament has three times as many prohibitions against heterosexual sex acts as homosexual ones. Evangelicals don't follow the Bible teachings about divorce. They ignore Christ's suggestion for the one without sin to cast the first stone. They pick and choose the teachings in Leviticus. I don't see them following any of the prescriptions for animal sacrifice or dietary restrictions of the Old Testament.

Good question. As a person who believes in Christ, I try to make Him my focus. That keeps me going in the right directions... well, at least most days. I'm not perfect. : )

I don't know why people focus on all the Old Testament stuff. Perhaps they are picking and choosing parts of the Bible to support what they already believe. Perhaps they are just following the crowd, i.e. other "evangelicals" believe that, so they should, too. I do not advocate that. I think we should look at what the Bible has to say, think through it, and decide for ourselves. We shouldn't depend on another person's viewpoint.

I'm not a believer, I don't agree with evangelicals on these issues that you allude to, but are you saying that the word of God prior to Jesus is invalid? Are you saying that the Torah and the Pentateuch are no good because Jews follow it? Sounds anti-Semitic to me.
By the way, the Old Testament comes in many different versions. It is different from religion to religion and even within different factions of the same religion.

If they talk about love and forgiveness they wouldn't have a reason for being republicans. They need to use the old testament to brainwash those weak-minded people who actually believe them. Otherwise, they wouldn't have made a big movement.

Selective preaching. What promotes the message best at that time. Most followers are taught never question, obey. Reminders of Jim Jones tactics.

Moses brought the law and Jesus fufilled the law it was not necessary for Jesus to restate the law it was already a part of their lives. Jesus came to the world to atone for our sins. He expected us to realize we need that atonement it is the same today. Those who realize that they have a need for him seek him and accept his atonement for their sins.

Christians who hate gays and eat pork. They're hypocrites, and the bible clearly says what will become of them.
