Hello, my name is Kim Kersey, and I am a OB/GYN. Spotting during early pregnancy is normal, especially the pink color. The reason for this, is because around the time you are expected to start your period, you will have a light period, or spot. It usually doesn’t last as long, and is usually pink. This is because around this time the baby connects to the uterine wall, so it can start growing. It’s normal! If you would like to reach me on my work email, it’s Dr.kimkersey07@yahoo.com you can email me anytime of the day. I check my email about once an hour, so email me whenever. Thanks and good luck with your baby. When you get farther along, email me and let me know what your having. Bye! < Dr. Kim Kersey

Cramping in the early stages of pregnancy is very normal, especially if you're around 4-5 weeks pregnant. Implantation happens around 7-10 days after conception (at 2 weeks), and often results in a bit of brown discharge (old or dried blood), so your symptoms may just be due to that. If the cramping gets worse or the discharge turns pink or red, then it could be an indicator of a miscarriage. If you notice this, call your doctor! Otherwise, I think you're probably in the clear. =) If you're worried though, give your doctor a call. Good luck!

They do say you could still have a slight show around the time you period is due. I have had this and I know its a bit frightening. But remeber there is an awful lot going on inside your belly and there are a few links on here about implantation bleeds and cramps which may be helpful. My first pregnancy I rang a midwife who was lovely and made me an appointment for a scan which was reassuring so theres always that option. Keep your feet up and I am sure you will be fine. Good luck.

Pink is fine as long as its not in large quantities. I had a miscarriage 6 moths ago, about 3 months into the pregnancy. When I wiped, there was a small amount of red blood. As time passed, the small amounts of blood when I would wipe didn't go away. I also started having lower back pains, so watch for that as well. I went to the emergency and they told me I was having a miscarriage. Just be careful not to overlook it if it gets any worse. I would also call your doctor and ask them what they think. They may want to see you. I'm sure you're fine and Good luck!

I would suspect implantation bleeding if it occurs a bit earlier than expected, if it were scanty, spotty, pinkish and not red and heavy like a period, and does not follow the normal pattern of a period (light to heavy to light).

The BBT should remain elevated and not decline to preovulatory levels.

There is often the feeling that it is a period with light cramps and bloating, but the bleeding is shorter, lighter and just not normal.

If a woman is usually regular, and now all of a sudden develops this type of early spotting, and of course is "at risk" for a pregnancy, I would strongly suspect conception.

When I found out I was pregnant I had been spotting for about 3 days & it lasted for about 2 weeks off & on!! It's pretty common lots of women spot each month when there period should of come.
I also spotted again at 15 weeks & am 18 now & it stopped within a few days!
Good luck!

Yes, it can be normal especially when a period would have been due. I had spotting with both of mine about 5wks and about 8wks. Still ask your midwife to be sure and they may scan you to be safe, they did with me both times. It is normally pinky rather than red but get checked out anyway. A lot of women get this so try not to worry (although I did, it's only natural). Hope this helps you, take care, x
