learning to tell the time.?

My son is finding it really hard to learn to tell the time. How is the best way to learn him I have bought him a watch andgot a learning clock but he is still struggling to grasp it.

My brother helped his son by associating each hour or half hour... with something his son recognized in his daily life...
Like he knew he got a snack at 12:00P
He took his nap at 2:30P
He had to go to bed at 8:00P
He knows he leaves his house for school by 8:30A
stuff like that and they generally begin to pick it up, he still can't grasp the minutes but hes catching on, like he knows what 12:00 looks like and the little hand is hours and big hand is minutes and if its like 12:15 he says he knows he was supposed to have snack at when the big hand and little hand were together... stuff like that...
