Well only problem is he will probably keep asking, you could have said no just in a different way. Like I don't feel comfortable doing that or I will help you do it but I feel like that is over stepping things. If you have no problem with it then I would have asked for something in return, a bonus, day off or something. My boss is crazy and has a thing with perfume on just 2 people out of 30 and we don't even wear any so I have told her not to ever mention it to me again and am still working here.

Your question seems very complex, but I'd like to answer it this way. Unless you have an employment contract or labor union contract that includes a list of specific duties and job description as part of that contract, he has the right to ask you to complete duties that are not illegal or that violate your civil rights and that fall within your skill level abilities. Since most states operate under "right to work" laws both you and your boss can terminate your employment without cause, at any time! This is called "at-will" employment. This means that you are free to walk out of your job and your boss is free to terminate your employment "at will" unless there is an employment contract or union labor contract stating otherwise. My suggestion is that if you have accepted employment with a company and have found that the work is not acceptable to you, move on!

You could say no, but it may back fire.
There are ways to let him or her know that you are unhappy about having to clean the office. Some statement like, "So, you want me to clean up all of your messes, huh! LOL. Well, just how much more are you going to pay me for doing this extra little duty that isn't in my job description?" Or something like that, being light hearted and kind of joking, kind of serious.

There are only a few circumstances that you can say no to your boss for.

If its in breach of health and saftey

It is illegal

The best policy is to carry out the task with reluctance and then complain afterwards in writing to both your boss and his diect line manger. He wont thank you for it but the chances are that he will get the message and wont ask you to do it again.

The way I see it, you're better off just doing it but throw everything in the garbage, including some things he may need. When he comes back to you asking what happened to this and that, say "OH MY GOD I'M SO SORRY!! I didn't realize you needed that!" Then next time your idiot boss will clean up his own damn mess.

If it's not your job, then you can say no. My husband has the same problems, like his boss will want him to hook a trailer on his personal truck because he doesn't want to get dirty, lol, give me a break! And he will ask him if he can go to his HOUSE and do crap!!! My husband finally just told him he doesn't have time to do this stuff! He backed off a bit, but still asks him to do stupid stuff now and then, but at least now my husband has the confidence to tell him no if he doesn't want to do it!

Never say NO if you are working for someone else. Never say NO if you are working for yourself.

hence the answer is NO. (unless the demand is illegal and illagitimate.)

a little piece of advise, always know the job of two posts above you and two posts below you. they will have to respect you ultimately. they will be dependant on you totally. till then.....stick to it.

how is it?

It is hard to do it, especially when you have been raised with the idea that we must always obey... But I can assure than we you start saying no, you will start to feel better with yourself. And will never get back.

There are lots of little things you may or may not do which will result in either pleasing or displeasing your boss without getting fired...
It is always best to try to please the boss...
