We're adopting a 16 year old guy who was rescued from an abusive home but my friend told me that adopting teenagers is the worst thing you should do. Are my parents making the wrong desison?

I applaud you! There are not enough people who adopt children over the age of 6. Be prepared for the tough issues of the case such as the boys readjustment into your life, his hormones, his friends, he may have abuse problems(physical and drug related). Helping this child will be an empowering thing for both you and your loved one. I wish you look and please keep us updated, if you will.

Oh I just realised you are a child, well, I appluad your parents.

adopting a teen is tough, but if you are ready for the HUGE responsability then great for you. I took custody of my 17 year old brother and it is hard. He does not want to go to school, he has no sence of real life. He wants me to do everything for him, and he is failing all his classes. There is nothing more that I can do to help him either. But if you are ready for the extra stress of a teen, then go for it. Just keep in mind that it will never be easy.

it's a good idea that they adoping a child and giving a new home to someone who needs it. At first it can be though, but then everyone gets used to everyone. I hope this helps in some sort of way!

it is extremely hard on both sides. if everyone is facing up to the reallities and getting counseling at the same time, the transition may be easier. remember the teenager will have severe trust issues. please make sure that the parents and everyone else in the immediate family is getting counseling.

I think that it might be tough at first adjusting to the changes, but every child needs a home no matter what age.
