we have watched it from start and are hooked. any theories on what's happening?

It seems to be some kind of an internal coup-d'etat, because the police officer from St. Louis who knows so much and is so secretive knew the guy who died of radiation sickness last week, and they seemed to be collaborators in some kind of plot. So I'm guessing that a group of people have bombed US cities so that a more totalitarian government can be put in place.
