Not if you contact the right people. My father was a veteran that required only one shoe. He got his shoes thru the Veterans Administration. They had a kind of 'shoe bank' where shoes could be individually purchased. There was also a local shoe-type exchange program thru the local VFW as well. Ask around in the local community such as the Social Services offices.

Yes I had a classmate with one leg. They should have a network and split the price with other people with the opposite leg missing. They would save a bunch!! But she would put the shoe on her artificial leg anyway so who knows if that would work.

Still have to pay, sure, but if the salesman likes you, maybe he could sell you two shoes for the same foot. Of course, you'd have to provide another one-legged customer needing two shoes for the opposite foot. Brilliant.

well, many people that only have one leg also have an artifical leg which they like to wear the other shoe on so it looks real. If you only have one leg and are in a wheelchair, do you even need a shoe?

yes my step mom has one leg and has to pay for both shoes since they do come in pairs..
