What do you think about doing that? Music has always been such an awesome part of my life and there are so many artists/musicians that I adore. What do you think of naming your kid after a rock star? Tryndee? Cheesy? Weird? What?

Just to clarify, I would never name my child Ringo or Vanilla. I was thinking of something a little less "out there" like Lennon or Ace.

I thought about Axl, but I don't like how that's spelled and then I thought "Okay how about Axel?" but that just reminds me of an axel on a car.

I guess you have to think about how your child feels with a name which isnt really his... it was someone else's who you 'borrowed'. I dont know your last name, but I cant imagine many names sounding nice with the above choices. My mother who teaches 1st grade has had some children come through her class with names like Jesse James, and Ida Trout... poor things! I even said I didnt mind being named after a song in answer to your other ?. I'd lean more towards doing that.

I guess it kinda depends on the name of the rock star. If it's a name that no one would guess where the name came from, then do it. But, you don't want kids in school making fun of your child in 10 years because you named your kid 'Axel' (Axel Rose) after someone that they will consider as old & washed up.

Don't name them something that they're going to hate or be made fun of. Ringo Starr, for example would not be a good name for a child...another example Vanilla Ice. You could try to mix some names of two artists you adore and that would be ok. Just make sure it is something you would want your child to live with for the rest of their life.

I think it's okay. I am naming my daughter Brixton Marin after the Clash's song, Guns of Brixton and the Dead Kennedys song, Moon Over Marin.

It has a lot of meaning to us. I wouldn't name a child after someone like Axl Rose, but it is up to you in the end.

Is there a such thing as a rock star anymore? Everything is like Pop rock!

Maybe name your child after a name in one of their songs (for example, my dad named me Sarah after the Hall & Oates song "Sara Smile"). Being named after a song has always felt special to me.

I think it's great as long as it's a name that you think you and the kid can live with. If my sister was a boy her middle name would have been Elvis. Fortunately she was a girl and it's not!

if u really want to do this you should mix 2 names in an original one. the new name will have special significations for you but will not be embarrassing for your son. he could not associate his name with the rock star, but you could. So do it! But do it carefully! this could influence his whole future.
