I use to work for a alarm company. There are alot of types of alarms on the market now. The best thing I can suggest is to make sure it is monitored either through the company you purchase it though. If possible talk with several companies and find out what they carry. Some of these companies may give you a year of patrol services for nothing. What that means is they will have a armed security person come into your home if they receive a alarm while your not home. Also watch out if you get infa red motion detectors. After working with them I have found that several things can make them go off and activate your alarm system. You might also check with the local police department as to how many false alarms you can receive in a year for free. After those you will be charged by the police. Hope this has helped you out.
